Becoming a chiropractor
My journey into the Chiropractic profession took me a long time but it was worth it! I was a teenager when I saw my first chiropractor and was given my first adjustment. I had grown tall very quickly while trying to pretend I was the same height as my friends by stooping, and as expected my poor posture had caught up with me. The treatment helped tremendously and over the next few years I saw chiropractors in the various places I lived. But for some reason I never saw myself becoming a chiropractor.
After school I studied Biology at Oxford because I loved the subject. I majored in Animal Behaviour and Disease. It was only when I was living out in Dubai doing unrelated and unsatisfying office work that my mother suggested I should think about chiropractic as a career.
She was a teacher at my old school and a past pupil had just graduated from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) down in Bournemouth. She had been telling my mother what a fascinating job it was. She was so enthusiastic about her job that I envied her!
Six months later I had observed at numerous chiropractic clinics in Dubai and met many wonderful clinicians, so I decided to apply to the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) and was lucky enough to be accepted.
It took a few more years of working and saving before I was finally able to move back to England to begin my studies. That day could not come soon enough! The following 4 years were the best in my life, and I felt I learnt so much and met many interesting people, both friends and patients, in the process of becoming a chiropractor. The AECC community was so supportive that all the hard work was well worth it, and being able to help people made the final year in clinic incredibly rewarding.
With my Chiropractic degree now complete, and a career in a field that I love, I am very thankful that I had that conversation with my mother all those years ago!
I am now a Chiropractor and lucky to be working at Lushington Chiropractic an multi-award winning clinic in Lushington Road, Eastbourne. We provide a range of treatments from expert chiropractic care to nutritional therapy, podiatry, acupuncture counselling and more. We genuinely care about our patients and we have a passion for improving their quality of life. Over 8,000 local people have already chosen Lushington Chiropractic to help them.
If you are still unsure what it is that a chiropractor does, there are many articles on this blog to help guide you as to the benefits of chiropractic. The important thing to remember is that a reputable chiropractor will always offer you an initial consultation to help you understand chiropractic better and explain what can be done to treat any injuries or issues you have.
