What I like about being a Clinic Assistant at Lushington Chiropractic.
My name is Carole Henderson and I started working here as a clinic assistant at the end of March 2015 to cover Jade’s maternity leave.
When James Revell asked me what I liked about working here it really made me realise how lucky I was, I also realised that it was unlike anywhere I had worked before; this place has a real family feel about it for guests and team alike.
Let’s start at the very beginning, that’s a very good place to start – there’s a song in there somewhere!
When I applied for the post as clinic assistant, I read through the job application and looked at the website and
thought it would be a nice place to work. I went to the interview on a cold, wet, rainy day, the door to the clinic was wide open and I thought to myself it’s going to be cold in there. How wrong I was – the fire was alight so it was nice and warm but it wasn’t only the fire that made it warm it was the lovely reception that I got from Claire, there was music playing in the background and the atmosphere was one of calm and tranquillity.
Lucky for me – I got the job!
I then embarked on a lengthy training programme, firstly with Dr Revell, who made sure I understood chiropractic and the ethos behind the clinic and what was expected of me and the other clinic assistants. I was even sent on a training course with the other ca’s it was held at Heathrow and called The Vital CA. My training didn’t stop there – I was assigned Judy as my main mentor and she taught me everything and I mean everything that I needed to know about this job. I received a ‘How to’ training manual which has can be referenced at any time if I need a reminder and it is invaluable.
I was surprised and really impressed with the training I received for a temporary job, every eventuality was covered and nothing was left to chance.
As the Gloria Gaynor song goes, at first I was afraid, I was petrified, what would happen when I didn’t have Judy by my side……
I needn’t have worried, yes I made mistakes, yes it took me longer than the others to process the payments and make the appointments…….
but the guests looked after me…….
They recognised I was new, told me to take my time and not to worry. Gradually things got easier for me and processes became more familiar.
I began to notice that guests who I had originally seen in pain when they walked through the door were now sitting in reception far more relaxed, reading the paper and sharing their experiences with other guests and putting new guests at ease just as they had done with me.
It is so nice to hear when guests come to the desk to make their next appointment how much better they are feeling and how they wish they hadn’t left it so long before paying us a visit. It’s also great to see the changes in their health reflected in their care plan, initially they might have been in to see us twice a week but now it’s only once every three weeks.
It’s the little things at Lushington Chiropractic that make a big difference, a warm welcome, a smiling face, the extra pairs of reading glasses on the table when you realise that you’ve forgotten your own, the fresh jug of water and a crispy apple and a birthday card on your birthday.
I realised that I don’t just like working here – I love it!
