Specialist foot care
What is podiatry/chiropody?

A podiatrist or chiropodist is someone trained to diagnose and provide treatment for conditions of the lower limb, specifically on the feet.
Apart from the common issues like corns and callus or nail disorders, a number of disorders such as diabetes can affect your feet and there might also be a case of functional and or structural disorders that the podiatrist has the knowledge to help with.
Is there a difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist?
Podiatry and chiropody are really the same profession and qualification.
However…
“Chiropody” and “Chiropodist” are the original names for this foot-care profession. Whereas “podiatry” and “podiatrist” are the more modern and international terms and some use these terms to describe more advanced medical foot care, such as wound care.
At Lushington Chiropractic in Eastbourne, we are happy for you to call our foot specialists whichever name you prefer, be it chiropodist or podiatrist. The main point is that our podiatrists/chiropodists are fully qualified, experienced and fully licensed to use both names.
Whatever name you call our “foot care people” they will still give you their best care for your feet!

Relief from ongoing foot pain+
Many people put up with painful feet for far too long. A professional assessment can identify the likely cause and help you find practical ways to relieve or manage your symptoms.
General foot care+
Routine care includes nail cutting, callus removal and advice for healthier feet. Sarah can also assess skin and nail concerns and offer guidance on hydration and footwear to help prevent future discomfort.
Diabetic foot assessments+
A comprehensive assessment includes circulation and sensation checks, plus a review of the skin, nails and footwear. The aim is to identify changes early, reduce pressure points and create a tailored foot-care plan.
Corn removal+
Using gentle, sterile techniques, Sarah can safely remove corns to reduce pressure and walking discomfort. She will also look for the source of friction and advise on footwear or protective padding.
Nail surgery+
For painful ingrown or damaged nails, nail surgery may offer lasting relief. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and includes clear aftercare advice and follow-up checks. A consultation is required to confirm suitability.
Thickened or damaged nails+
Sarah will assess possible causes such as trauma, pressure or fungal infection. Professional reduction and smoothing can relieve pressure from footwear, improve comfort and help the nails look better.
