Here in Eastbourne, I use heated muscle scraping which is an innovative massage technique that recently has gained a lot of popularity; however, do you properly know how to look after yourself after receiving a treatment?
I’m Ewan Taylor, a Sports Massage Therapist based in Eastbourne, and I’ve put together a simple list of the top 5 aftercare tips to follow once you’ve had a heated muscle scraping treatment.
After a heated muscle scraping session, many people leave feeling lighter, looser, and more mobile. But what you do after the treatment is just as important as what happens during it. Taking care of your body properly helps you get the best results and recover even faster. I’m Ewan Taylor, a Sports Massage Therapist based in Eastbourne, and I’ve put together a simple list of the top 5 aftercare tips to follow once you’ve had a heated muscle scraping treatment.
1. Marks & Bruising

Marks and bruising after receiving scraping is very normal and is where the blood flow to the skin increases after the treatment. It is important to note that after scraping the areas that are marked, they may become quite tender or sore and from the photo shown, it can appear quite worrying.
Marks and bruising should leave the skin after a few days after the treatment.
It is also important to add that some people might not get any signs of marking or bruising after a treatment, and again this is completely normal.
2. Take it easy for the rest of the day
Heated scraping can make your muscles feel great, but they’ve still been worked on and need time to recover. Avoid heavy workouts or intense activity for at least 24 hours, especially if we did deep work on a specific area.
You can still go for a light walk or do some gentle stretching, but give your body time to respond to the treatment. Think of it like a reset button for your muscles – now’s the time to let them settle.

3. Watch for mild soreness – and don’t worry!
Some people feel a little sore or tender after a session, especially if it was their first time or if we treated a very tight area. This is completely normal and usually goes away within a day or two.
It might feel a bit like the soreness you get after a good workout. You can use a warm shower, gentle movement, or light stretching to help ease any stiffness. If you’re unsure about anything you’re feeling, just drop me a message – I’m always happy to check in.
4. Keep the area warm and mobile
Your muscles have been warmed up during treatment, and it’s a good idea to keep that warmth going. A warm bath, a heat pack, or even just wearing an extra layer can help relax the area further.
Also, keep the area moving. Gentle movement helps your body maintain the benefits of the treatment. Try to avoid sitting still for long periods, especially if we treated your back, shoulders, or hips.
5. Listen to your body
Everyone’s body responds differently. Some people feel immediate relief, while others notice gradual improvement over a day or two. Pay attention to how your body feels and give it the rest or movement it needs.
