With Those Killer Heels you Might be Getting More Than you Bargained for
Ladies, did you know that even a 1 inch heel can be damaging? And as for a 3 inch heel….. this leads to a 76% increase in the weight placed on the toes. This causes the body to tilt forward and for you to overarch your back to compensate.
The result? A bad posture that causes strain on the knees, hips and lower back. Our advise is to wear trainers to and from work and only wear weapons of fashion in moderation. Ideally, if you must wear heels, set a maximum of 2 inches.
James Revell, Doctor of Chiropractic, has this advice:
“We all know it’s best to avoid heels whenever reasonably possible. But, if they are a “must have” item then try to minimise how often you wear them. Don’t be surprised if you get more back ache when you’ve got your heels on. That pain is your body sending you a message that it’s not happy.”
“A lot of my guests who have to wear heels have their comfy shoes close at hand either for the commute to work or if they’re on a night out then they’ll quietly slip out of those killer heels into something more sensible and more comfortable.”
“I’ve seen guests (patients) with a wide range of ages. But, I’ve never had any of my older guests regret looking after their feet. Our body’s are remarkable, they put up with a lot. It’s easy to ignore aches and pains when they begin but isn’t it better to listen to those warning signals and make some simple, practical changes.”
“Sorry killer heels, but this chiropractor’s giving you the boot” LOL
It may be a bad joke – but it is good posture advice. Good posture starts from the ground up. Look after your feet and they’ll look after you.
